Research

One of the bands that we are looking at are Kasabian. The band started off as a small indie rock band from Leicester but now are selling records and shows all around the world. The reason why we have decided to look at them for inspiration is because of their image and their sound. The band have a very distinct sound and view on what a music video for their music should look like.

These are the albums covers for Kasabian second and forth albums. The first album I am going to be looking at is "Empire" which is their second album I am also going to look slightly in to their forth album called "48:13"which is very different to any other album cover that I have seen while researching the indie rock genre.

"Empire"

This is the second album that kasabian bought out, The cover of the album looks as if it has took inspiration from a playing card this is because of the k's at the top and the bottom as well as the clubs which is possible that relates to the song on the album which is called "club foot". The album cover is a lot different to the rest of their albums as the other all have a very striking and simple design on the front cover compared to this album which has much more realistic design.

The second band that we are looking at is The Arctic Monkey's they have a similar sound to the first band that we are looking at. However they have different styles of music videos so looking at them in comparison to Kasabian we may get more ideas to put towards our own music video.

"Humbug"

This the album cover of one Arctic Monkeys first album. The album has picture of all four of the members of the band. The cover shows them all just standing around with none of them actually are actually looking or are taking notice of the camera. It is most likely been taken with out them knowing. Also the colour of the photo represents that photo was taken a while ago as it looks like an old fashioned polaroid. This photo accurately represents the band because of the photo being taken without their knowledge their are seen acting themselves with one or two of them smoking cigarettes 

"Favourite Worst Nightmare"

This is their second album that I am analysing. This cover is very different to the first album i looked at this one is much more modern with different techniques being used. Where the first album was just a photo this one has been photoshop it features a house in black and white on a ordinary street however through the window you can see bright colours. The bright colours which can been seen on the inside of the house can connote that despite the house looking plain and dull the interior is exciting and bright. The band may have done this to represent themselves saying people may say that they look boring however their actually fun. Meaning that it could be saying in other words don't judge a book by its cover.

Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselicin Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era.

Bring Me the Horizon are a British rock band from Sheffield, Yorkshire. Formed in 2003, the group currently consists of lead vocalist Oliver Sykes, lead guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nichols and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively in the US. The style of their early work, including their debut album Count Your Blessings, has primarily been described as death core, but they started to adopt a more eclectic style of metalcore on subsequent albums. Furthermore, their latest album That's the Spirit, marked a shift in their sound to less aggressive rock music styles.

 


Despite being very different, these two rock bands have similar styles of music, Nirvana being formed in 1987 and Bring Me the Horizon being formed in 2003 shows how two different rocks bands being created years apart can have similar sounding music.
